David Littleproud Elected to Lead National Party
Updated: Jul 20, 2022
After first announcing his intention to challenge previous leader of the National Party, Barnaby Joyce, on the 28th of May, David Littleproud has been elected to lead the Nationals following a post-election vote. Fellow Nationals MP, Perin Davey, will serve as deputy.

Mr. Littleproud also declared that the National Party would remain committed to its net-zero climate target. There was speculation that Mr. Joyce's previous comments suggesting the party should abandon the commitment lead to the change in leadership.
Mr. Littleproud previously served as Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources from 2017 to 2019 before becoming Minister for Water Resources, Drought, Rural Finance, Natural Disaster and Emergency Management.
